This blog focuses on the preparation of setting up a mix for repeat clients. After I have completed a mix for an artist or songwriter who has sent me their tracks, I usually create a template of that mix so that it will be easier to perform a mix for another song. Most of the time, a group of songs will have the same flavor to make for a coherent record. Therefore, after I set up the effects routing and busses for the various tracks, I will be able to use them for a second song. This cuts down the setup time for the next song. Of course I can still make as many adjustments as I need to, in order to create a fresh mix. But saving time on the basics gives more time to really dive in.
